Growing up in the ‘norties’ and ‘twenty tens’, I never knew how to manage my curly hair; it was definitely not the style of hair that was on-trend or well represented at the time. The no-volume, dead-straight-hair look felt like the one and only ‘cool’ hair style in my teen years. The constant straightening left by natural curls parched and completely out of control, so of course I always gravitated towards straightening it to restore some kind of order.

Once the world shut down in 2020, and the ‘curly girl method’ became a viral revolution in the management of curly hair, I began to learn so much about how to manage my curls. Of course my curly hair was out of control when I was doing just about everything to dry out and damage my hair strands!

I began spending a lot more time and effort researching and trying products that would compliment my natural hair. Silicone and sulphate-free shampoos, hair masks, leave in conditioners, hair oils, curl creams- you name it, I’d tried a lot. Ingredients like Glycerin and Aloe Vera started to become by new best friends and I really started to notice the results they were having on reducing my frizz and defining by curls.

But nothing was ever the complete package; products that had great hold then left my hair feeling stiff, flaky or dry. Others didn’t smell great, were too pricey or I would need 5 products to achieve a nice end result- and who has the time or money for that?!

It was between 2020-2023 that I started to dabble with creating my own curly hair product that would tick every box I needed it to. There were many failed attempts but eventually I found a formula that stuck, and it achieved everything I wanted in a curly hair products; strong hold, no residue or product build up, hydrating and smells great!

My family and friends loved the product so much that I decided I shouldn’t gate-keep it any longer, so here I am in 2024 creating my own curly haircare brand so that you can all embrace your natural curls just like I have. I’ve done all the work for you and now you have this amazing curly hair gel at your fingertips!

Tame is my baby and current side hustle alongside my day job in the healthcare industry. I’m so lucky to have such supportive family and friends to guide and empower me on this venture and I hope this product helps you embrace your natural hair like it has for me.
